General Motors, DaimlerChrysler and Ford Motor reports massive drop in sales for July
The three big automakers in the US market General Motors, DaimlerChrysler and Ford Motor have all reported double-digit declines in July U.S. auto sales from a year ago.
This is mainly due to massive discounts offered by the companies last year during the month of July.
In comparison, Japanese automakers Toyota and Honda both registered improved sales in the US market.
GM posted a drop in sales by around 22.5% as they sold 406,298 vehicles compared with 524,218 units last month.
DaimlerChrysler did worse as their sales were down by around 34%. Chrysler alone reported a drop of around 37% in vehicle sales compared to the same period last year.
Ford also performed badly and sold around 241,339 cars and trucks, down from 366,548 a year ago.
