Alltel posts higher quarterly profit

Alltel Corp. has come out with its revenue reports and the company has posted a higher quarterly profit figure.

The company gained from adding more than expected number of new customers to their services. And they have now predicted a similar rate of growth for the rest of the year.

Alltel is a dominating player in the rural areas and they reported earnings of $428.9 million or $1.10 a share compared with $402.1 million or $1.27 a share a year ago in the same period.

The company clarified that the earning per share has gone down this year as they now have 24% more shares floating around in the market.

Alltel gained 146,000 net new wireless customers in the quarter.
