Kingfisher Airlines orders 15 ATR 72-500 planes
One of the shining stars of the growing Indian aviation market Kingfisher Airlines has announced their decision to acquire 15 ATR 72-500 planes from the France-based plane maker ATR. The deal is worth around $270 million.
The representatives from the two companies signed the deal in the presence of French President Jacques Chirac, who is on a visit to India. ATR is basically a 50-50 joint venture between Airbus parent EADS and Italy’s Finmeccanica.
These planes are scheduled for delivery beginning next year and the company believes that these new plans would help them boost their presence in the Indian market. Kingfisher Airlines plans to use these planes as feeder aircraft on smaller domestic routes to link Kingfisher Airlines four hubs - New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bangalore.
