MTV Networks to acquire Atom Entertainment for $200 million
Viacom unit MTV Networks has confirmed that they are going to acquire Internet video and games company Atom Entertainment Inc.
This deal would be worth around USD 200 million as they aim to get into the market to take on online companies like YouTube.com.
MTV aims to get the user’s attention by getting access to the Atom’s portfolio of online videos created by Internet users, short independent films and casual online games.
MTV Chairman and Chief Executive Judy McGrath said in a statement on this decision to acquire Atom: “This acquisition is in line with our business strategy of being a leader in the digital space and connecting with consumers on every platform and device they use.”
