Dell announces a major recall of laptop batteries

World’s largest maker of personal computers Dell has said in a statement that they would now be recalling as many as 4.1 million notebook computer batteries.

Dell said that these batteries could potentially overheat and catch fire. This is the largest recall of its kind in the company’s 22-year history.

The company is blaming the problem on the lithium-ion batteries made by Sony Energy Devices Corp.

Interestingly, similar kinds of batteries are also used by Apple Computers. Hewlett Packard has confirmed that they are not affected by these problematic batteries.

Dell added that they have received six reports of batteries overheating, causing damage to furniture and personal belongings. No user has been reported to be injured due to these accidents.
