IBM to acquire FileNet for USD 1.6 Billion

US based tech giants IBM continues to acquire more companies to expand into the services market. IBM has now confirmed that they are acquiring business process and enterprise content management specialist FileNet.

The deal would be conducted in a cash only transaction and is worth around USD 1.6 billion.

IBM plans to integrate FileNet’s technology into their existing SOA systems for BPM and ILM (information lifecycle management).

Ambuj Goyal, general manager of information management at IBM spoke on this latest deal: “Freeing up information contained in content management systems is critical to unlocking the potential of information to improve business processes and performance.”

Independent analyst Bruce Silver added his views on this acquisition by IBM: “One factor … may be increased competition from EMC in content management, where EMC has made major strides in production imaging, enterprise records management, and collaboration, and has integrated it all with BPM.”
