Nanjing Automobile Group to build cars using MG Rover technology

Nanjing Automobile Group has confirmed that they are setting up a 1.8 billion Yuan unit to oversee the development of its own-brand cars based on technology bought from failed carmaker MG Rover.

They would be holding around 22.22 percent of the new subsidiary. And this subsidiary would start manufacturing of these cars from next year. The unit has six other local firms in the equation.

Nanjing Auto made news last year when they acquired the stakes in MG Rover beating local rivals SAIC Motor. And they recently shocked the market with the news that they are now aiming to build a manufacturing plant in the US market to make cars for that market.

They also plan to assemble vehicles at Rover’s now-closed Longbridge assembly plant near Birmingham, England.
