Ford aiming to double car sales in Russia this year

Ford’s head of the Russian unit Henrik Nenzen has said in a statement that they are expecting to double their automobile sales in the country this year.

The company is aiming to sell as many as 120,000 units in 2006. Half of these cars would be manufactured locally.

The sales of cars made by global automakers have been rising in the country where the standard of living has improved phenomenally in the last couple of years.

Ford is currently the market leader in the country and it became the first foreign company to open a large plant in the country near the Western city of St Petersburg. The demand is so high that they have to import cars from other manufacturing units around the world.
