LCD television might get a bit cheaper next year

Consumers wanting to purchase a LCD television set might want to wait for a couple of months as both LG Electronic and Sharp Corp. have said that they are expecting the prices of these devices to fall sometime next year.

Young Chan Kim, head of global marketing for LG’s displays division said in a statement: “Last year we saw about 30 percent of price reductions for plasma and a little bit more for LCD. Next year, in 2007, we expect about the same.”

Katsuhiko Machida, president of Sharp added: “Some segments may drop 30 percent, others only 15 percent. On average we view 20 percent for the market.”

LG added that they want to market leader in the segment by 2007. The company is planning to start selling its first Full High Definition (Full HD) LCD television set this year.
