BesTV: China Telecom launches Internet TV service in China

China Telecom is already the country’s largest fixed-line company and they have now collaborated with Shanghai Media Group to launch a joint internet TV service.

This would mark the entry of Chinese telecom companies into the Web-based areas.

They have named this service BesTV and it would use the Internet Protocol Television service to deliver television content over the internet protocol.

China Telecom is hoping to reach as many as 80,000 to 100,000 households by the end of 2006.

Their partner Shanghai Media Group is the first company in China to receive a license from Beijing to run IPTV.
