Indian Railways collaborates with State Bank of India

Indian Railways has announced that they are collaborating with the government operated State Bank of India. The plan is to make it easier for the end consumer to purchase tickets for rail travel on the internet.

Indian Railways are hoping this would lure more customers to avail their services considering the competition from budget airline companies has intensified in the last couple of years.

Indian Railways launched a new scheme under this collaboration named Shubh Yatra. It has been launched through their subsidiary Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC). SBI would be helping them in this initiative.

They are launching two schemes. One of them would benefit the frequent travelers of the railways, as the consumers would get points, which they can use, later for free tickets. The other program includes the introduction of the SBI Railway Card — India’s first co-branded credit card of its kind for railway passengers.
