Volkswagen might make Audi cars at its main Wolfsburg plant
German automotive giant Volkswagen has said that they are considering manufacturing cars for premium arm Audi in its main Wolfsburg plant.
The plant is currently running at less than optimized capacity. VW is considering manufacturing their Audi A3 model at this plant.
Audi on its own is currently manufacturing the A3 car at their Ingolstadt plant. A company representative was quoted as saying in the media: “The car has more in common technically with the VW Golf than with the Audi A4, which cannot imaginably be removed from Ingolstadt. In addition, Audi urgently needs capacity to build niche models like the Q5 in its main factory.”
Another media source had Porsche Chief Executive Wendelin Wiedeking as saying: “For me it is clear that Wolfsburg must be fully employed. The main factory with which the company was founded has to have its capacity used.”
