Bharti to reveal their retail partner next month
Bharti is already a major telecom player in the Indian market through their Airtel branded services. The company now wants to get into retailing and is due to reveal more details sometime next month.
Company boss Sunil Mittal has said that he’ll select an overseas partner next month for his planned retail venture. He is currently reviewing offers from some of the world’s biggest retailing companies.
As per available information, he has offers from Carrefour AS, Tesco Plc and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Bharti is aiming to start with groceries and subsequently add other products like lifestyle goods.
Bharti is already supplying fruits and vegetables to Tesco, Britain’s largest supermarket owner and owns half of FieldFresh Foods Pvt., an equal venture with ELRo Holdings India Ltd.
India is being seen as an excellent destination for the investors in the retail industry.
