Alltel Corp. acquisition of Midwest Wireless Holdings approved

The Federal Communications Commission has finally given its approval for the Alltel Corp.’s $1 billion acquisition of Midwest Wireless Holdings.

This comes after the U.S. Justice Department said it would not oppose the deal. They just imposed the conditions that Alltel would have to sell off some assets in four areas of rural Minnesota.

Alltel already has a customer base of around 11 million in 35 states in the country. Midwest Wireless on the other hand would now add on around 400,000 customers in southern Minnesota, northern and eastern Iowa, and western Wisconsin.

The FCC has now given its approval for the transfer of licenses held by Midwest Wireless to Alltel. This will not be valid for the four areas where divestiture is required by the company.
