Canon to enter the market of flat panel television sets
Canon and Toshiba are collaborating together to start mass production of ultra-thin flat-panel TVs in early 2008.
This would see them enter the market currently dominated by players like Matsushita Electric Industrial and Samsung.
Canon and Toshiba would be manufacturing a new type of flat panels, which they say are thinner and consume less energy than the current generation of LCD and plasma television sets.
The two companies also showcased a 55-inch full high-definition TV at a trade show in Japan.
Canon would also be targeting the Chinese market with these products to attract customers who want to see the 2008 Beijing Olympics in its full glory.
