Samsung to double their mobile phone manufacturing capacity in India

India is one of the fastest growing mobile markets and Samsung is addressing the need by doubling their manufacturing capacity at their plant based in Manesar from the current 1.2 million units a year to 3 million by next year.

Hyunchul Ryu, managing director Samsung Telecommunications India said in a statement: “We will be expanding our capacity to 3 million by next year. We have not decided on the size of the investment.”

The company also launched their latest mobile phone product SGH-P310 in India. This phone comes with a dual battery and is the size of a smart card.

Interestingly, both Motorola and Nokia are already setting up their manufacturing units in India with investments of $100 million and $150 million, respectively.

Samsung on their part have plans to launch seven more handsets this year and would be displaying about 40 handsets at Mobile Asia, which begins on October 13 in New Delhi.
