Sony recalling its own laptops umm Sony manufactured batteries

Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony has announced that they are joining the list of companies which are recalling laptops over safety concerns.

These laptops are all loaded with Sony manufactured batteries and are prone to overheating and even fire.

The company announced that they are recalling batteries from its own Vaio notebook computers in Japan and China. As many as 90,000 Sony Vaio notebooks are said to be impacted in Japan and China. With this, the total number of notebook computers being recalled is now touching an astounding 8 million units.

Some other PC manufacturers already part of the program are Dell, Apple, IBM, Lenovo, Toshiba, Fujitsu, and Hitachi. Sony had been claiming till now that their own laptop products are not affected by this problem.

In other news, Sony said that they are now downgrading their earnings forecast. Sony spokeswoman Mami Imada said in a statement: “We know that the battery problems will generate certain costs. We have also lowered the price of the PlayStation 3 which will have an impact.”

Sony had recently announced a price cut for the upcoming PS3 gaming console in the Japanese market to counter the challenge posed by Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
