Hero Honda claims that they are prepared to maintain their leadership
Bajaj Auto is rapidly making a comeback to challenge Hero Honda in the Indian two wheeler market. However, the market leaders are not sitting idle.
Hero Honda has said in a statement that they have put in place a strategy to retain its leadership in the Rs 33,000 crore two-wheeler market.
This would include steps to develop new high-performance engines in 100cc, expanding capacity to beyond 5 million units and reducing the price of 100cc bikes.
Hero Honda managing director Pawan Kant Munjal said in a statement: “As confident as they are of upstaging us, we are confident of retaining our leadership and growing our lead.”
Interestingly, Bajaj Auto has said in recent days that they are going to phase out their 100cc models to increase their focus on bikes with 125cc engines. Hero Honda on the other hand believes that the 100cc bikes are here to stay.
Munjal added: “We have dominated the 100cc segment for many years and will continue to dominate. Possibly it may be the reason for Bajaj Auto leaving the segment.”
