Universal Music slashes prices of some online albums
Universal Music has said that they are slashing European download prices for some of its older albums.
This is the first such cut announced by a major music label company. Universal are the world’s largest seller of recorded music and from November 1, they would reduce the prices it charges online retailers for 1,500 albums.
The company added that the prices for the end consumer would be mined by individual online services. However, it is unlikely that the prices of individual songs would be affected on online services like Apple iTunes due to this announcement.
Max Hole, head of marketing for Universal Music’s international division spoke about this announcement: “As the leading online record company, we are totally committed to expanding and developing the digital music market. The promise of the Internet has always been about making it easier for people to access music in new ways and at affordable prices, and that’s what we are aiming to achieve.”
