DaimlerChrysler confirm job cuts at Mercedes Car Group

DaimlerChrysler AG has confirmed that they have been pretty successful at implementing job cuts at their Mercedes Car Group.

The company said that as many as 9,300 workers took early retirement or buyouts.

Company representative Guenther Fleig added that the cost to the company for trimming the positions was smaller than expected.

The Mercedes Car Group of the company makes cars including the Mercedes-Benz line of cars and the ultra compact unit Smart. The group suffered a major setback last year when they had to announce a 1.3 million vehicle recall.
