Nokia expands their Research and Development facility in Bangalore
World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has announced the launch of their new development center at the Prestige Tech Park in Bangalore. This is the company’s expanded Research and Development facility in the city.
This new site is the largest site of its kind for Nokia in India. The company said that this unit would focus on development work for software platforms, chipsets and high-end Nokia mobile devices.
Nokia added that this center would provide Indian developers the opportunity to work on telecommunications technologies. Their original R and D center in Bangalore was established in 2001 when they had acquired Amber Networks. Since then, this center has played a key role in development of new applications and software platforms for product development.
Nokia is not alone. Motorola also has major development work going on in India and as much as 40% of the software powering their mobile phones is coded in India.
