Bangalore officially renamed to Bengalooru

We already have seen a couple of renaming of city names in the recent times. Bombay became Mumbai. Madras became Chennai. Calcutta has become Kolkata. The latest in this series of high profile name change is Bangalore.

The city is now changing its name to Bengalooru. Business leaders in the city are somewhat disappointed with this change as they claim that the name Bangalore has become a brand name in the developed nations and it might hurt their chances in the BPO industry.

There is also some confusion on the name’s spelling. Whether to call it Bengaluru, Bengaloru or Bengalooru.

The city houses more than 1,500 IT companies including giants like Infosys and Wipro from India and others like Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Cisco.

Bangalore is not alone. There are more cities which have been renamed: Mysooru (Mysore), Mangalooru (Mangalore), Chikmagalooru (Chikmagalur), Shivamogga (Shimoga), Belagaavi (Belgaum), Kalburgi (Gulbarga), Hubballi (Hubli), Hosapete (Hospet) and Tumakooru (Tumkur).

Bangalaroo is an apt sounding name for this city crying for infrastructural facilities like roads, sanitation, water, drainage, power supply and other basic facilities. Banglore suits a city with sleek infrastructure, good roads and the genrealy civility that is supposed to be associated with it.

Since Bangalore never associated with such things, Bengalaroo is suitable to suggest everything that is lacking to make it a city.
    Welcome to Namma bengalarooo!!!!!
