Mercedes Car Group reports falling sales in October

DaimlerChrysler has reported that the sales of their premium division Mercedes Car Group fell 3.5 percent in October to 102,500 units.

The company suffered due to plunging deliveries of Smart cars in the markets where it is available on sale.

The sales of the Mercedes-Benz brand were steady at 94,200 units. The sales of the Smart Car fell by around 31.3 percent to 8,300 vehicles.

This division’s sale in the first 10 months of 2006 rose 4.8 percent to a record 1.04 million units. Mercedes’ S-Class executive car continues to do well in the world markets as well. It has sold 76,300 units worldwide this year.

Mercedes Car Group added that they are on track to deliver a 7 percent profit margin next year.
