Emirates airline to allow in-flight mobile phone services
Dubai-based company Emirates has said that they would soon become the first airline company to allow in-flight mobile phone services on their fleet.
This comes after the company fitted their crafts with required safety equipments. Emirates said in a statement: “Emirates will install a system that allows passengers the choice of safely using their own mobile phones to make and receive phone calls and text messages from Emirates aircraft.”
They are planning to launch the service on board one of its Boeing 777s as early as January 2007. Other Europe based airline companies are also working on similar plans to allow in-flight mobile phone services on board.
Emirates said that they have invested around 27 million dollars to fit its fleet with equipment supplied by AeroMobile. It added: “The AeroMobile aircraft systems ensure that passenger mobile phones operate at their minimum power settings thereby allowing their safe use on the aircraft.”
