Bajaj Auto to setup a manufacturing plant in Indonesia
Indian automaker Bajaj Auto has said that they are going to establish a manufacturing plant in Indonesia for expanding their global presence.
The company expects to sell 100,000 vehicles in Southeast Asia’s largest economy in the next two years.
They are going to make available their Pulsar model on sale initially in this market. They would be investing around $50 million on this new manufacturing facility.
Sanjiv Bajaj, Executive Director (Finance) of Bajaj Auto said in a statement that they plan to import the bikes from India till the time they are manufactured locally.
He said: “We are very proud to launch Pulsar DTS-i in Indonesia. Our entry into Indonesia is part of our global plans to help us move from the 4th largest two wheeler manufacturer of the world to the 3rd largest two wheeler manufacturer. So far, there are more than 1.3mn Pulsars running on the road in various countries all around the world. In India Pulsar has always been the market leader in the 150cc plus segment with 60% Market Share.”
DK Banerjee, Director-Marketing & Sales of PT. Bajaj Auto Indonesia added: “The growth of sport motorcycle segment in Indonesia has been steady in the last few years at an average of about 8% from total motorcycle sales. There is still a big opportunity for this segment to expand.”
