Mobile phone subscriber base to touch 2.6 billion this year
Market research company iSuppli has claimed that the world would have as many as 2.6 billion mobile phone subscribers by the end of this year.
This number is further going to expand to nearly 4 billion by the end of the current decade. The market is expanding mainly because of the popularity of cheap handsets now available in the market.
China and India are currently the driving force in this industry. And Africa and Middle East is also contributing a lot to this number.
Mobile phone makers are currently working on ways to make phone units which would cost less than USD 30 to the end users. The aim is to get the cost of making a mobile phone to just around USD 15 in the next couple of years.
