Indian Railways planning Rail Ratna branded budget hotels
Indian Railway Minister Lalu Prasad announced that they are now planning to construct as many as 100 budget hotels on surplus railway land.
These would be constructed under the brand name of Rail Ratna and would be opened up throughout the country through public-private partnership.
The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has already given the green signal for this project after earmarking land required for dedicated freight corridors and other projects.
Mr. Prasad said in a statement: “Keeping this in view, Indian Railways has decided to construct at least 100 budget hotels on its land across the country to offer facilities to its passengers.”
P K Goel, chairman and MD of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation added: “Tenders have been floated for construction or renovation of hotels in Madurai, Vijayawada, Secunderabad, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Tirupati, Kanyakumari, Rameshwaram, Ooty, Nagpur, New Jalpaiguri, Agra, Pune, Darjeeling, Habibganj, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Sealdah and Lalgarh.”

About

This is a recommendable initiative of Indian railways. If these hotels can be customized according to needs of passengers like for short term stays; showering, overnight sleeping and so forth. Lacks of these facilities near platform, passengers are always in inconvenient situations. In my opinion Railways should play role in monitoring the quality of services and private partners in delivery the services. This can be successful combination as they are building on their strengths not on their weaknesses
