Volvo to cut 1000 jobs at its Dublin, Virginia plant
Truck maker Volvo has said that they would be cutting as many as 1000 jobs at their Dublin, Virginia plant in the United States.
The truck market has done pretty good in the recent years but it is expected to see a sharp drop in sales in the early months of 2007.
Volvo itself has said that the US heavy-duty truck market could contract by as much as 40 percent during the first half of next year.
The company spoke with a media group: “It is completely an adjustment to the expected volume declines due to the pre-buy effect in connection to the new emission rules.”
Volvo assembles trucks of the Volvo and Mack brands at their plant in Virginia. They have already announced their plans to cut 600 jobs at its subsidiary Mack Truck’s plant in Hagerstown, Maryland.
