Toyota starts manufacturing Tundra from their new Texas plant
Toyota Motor has started manufacturing their Tundra vehicle at their new plant based in Texas. This would be their challenge in the lucrative U.S. pickup truck market, which is currently dominated by the products made by local giants like Ford, GM and DaimlerChrysler.
This plant was built at an estimated cost of $1.28 billion and it is located eight miles south of the Alamo in San Antonio.
Toyota executives are claiming that this is the biggest strategic bet in the Japanese automaker’s history as they aim at dominating the American truck market.
Don Esmond, senior vice president of automotive operations, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. added: “Without a doubt the Tundra is the single most important product we have marketed in the 50 year history of Toyota in the United States.”
Texas Governor Rick Perry added: “When Toyota announced it would build a plant in Texas, it was the shot in the arm we needed to transform our economy and begin creating jobs in Texas again.”
