Volkswagen might launch a Polo variant in India
German automaker Volkswagen is setting up a manufacturing plant in India and the company is now rumored to be considering launching a variant of their popular Polo car here.
This car would be launched in the same segment as Maruti’s Swift, Hyundai’s Getz and Tata Motor’s Indica.
This new product could be designed internally by the company specifically for the Indian market looking at the demand from the domestic customer. Detlef Wittig, member of the Volkswagen management board spoke about their plans for India: “We are looking at a low-cost product for the India market. We are targeting the B segment of the passenger car market, which also is the largest in the country and is expected to grow further.”
VW is also likely to roll out their Passat model as completely knocked down unit in India soon. This could be priced at around Rs. 30 lakh. Wittig added: “We will be doubling our production at Aurangabad facility from 12,000 units to 25,000 by next fiscal. We will be rolling out some Volkswagen cars and look for few models from the Audi stable such as the A4 and A6 and Q7 which are currently being marketed in Indian.”
