Singapore Airlines could buy more of the Boeing 777 planes

Singapore Airlines has said in a statement that they are currently considering buying more Boeing 777 airplanes.

This would give them space to grow till the time they get hold of the deliveries of the delayed Airbus A380 superjumbo jet.

Chew Choon Seng, the airline’s chief executive said in a statement on this new development: “Boeing 777-300ERs, in our experience, would be a useful alternative to A380s. We could upsize the order if there are further delays with the A380.”

They are already taking deliveries of their previously ordered 777-300ER planes. The company said that they expect the 278-seat planes to fulfill the need they wanted to fill with the A380 planes.

Singapore Airlines had placed 10 firm orders for Airbus’s 555-seat A380 and they are likely to order more. But these plans have been delayed with the recently reported problems with the plane’s manufacturing process.

Although the Airbus A380 is being delayed further and the amount of Aircraft will be reduced substantially over the next few years, it makes me wonder why anyone would order more.

This plane seems to be jinxed and has bad Karma, I’m not so sure I would fly on one, with respect to the many failings that have occurred during its construction, wing failures during testing, wiring that won’t connect, software glitches in the design programs with unforeseen problems yet to be discovered. It almost seems the plane is being patched together with duct tape. I would not feel confident flying on one, despite all the reassurances from Airbus, who have been less than forthcoming, and at times seem to be in a state of denial.

I’m sure Singapore must be having second thoughts about this plane, I certainly do.
