CBS to relaunch the CBS Records brand
The Wall Street Journal has said that the media company CBS is considering relaunching their music brand CBS Records.
However, this would be a small beginning for the label which was sold to Sony Corp for $2 billion in 1987.
This label would indeed sell music to the general public but would concentrate on generating inexpensive music for use in the network’s prime-time lineup.
WSJ said that the aim is to save money on television programming rather than to challenge the existing biggies in the music industry.
Nancy Tellem, president of the CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group was quoted by the paper as saying: “Saving music costs alone is a success. Whatever additional revenue we generate is an added bonus.”
