DaimlerChrysler might launch Smart in US
One of the top automobile manufacturers in the United States, DaimlerChrysler is now considering launching their Smart brand of cars in the North American market. DaimlerChrysler chief executive Dieter Zetsche said in a statement to a media group: “It is now more likely that we will decide in favor of, rather than against (entering) the U.S.”.
The company is expected to come out with their decision to launch the next generation of Smart two-seaters in the United States within this half of the year itself. Smart is a loss-making unit for the company though they have narrowed its operating loss in recent years.
DaimlerChrysler is still giving Smart another year to break even and are also looking for potential buyers for this unit. They have appointed investment bank Goldman Sachs for this purpose. The company seems to have received several collaboration offers from many companies and they are evaluation those options.
