Trinamool Congress clarifies it has nothing against TATA

Tata Motors want to build their Rs. 1 lakh car and they got an offer from the West Bengal government. However, the problem is that Trinamool Congress is protesting against the government’s decision to grant agricultural land to Tata for this plant.

It seems like the political party is making this issue a political one considering Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee has been on fast for 24 days to demand the relocation of the project.

The party has now clarified its position. It has said that they do not have anything against Tata. They just want the government to allocate some other land. Trinamool leader Sougata Roy said in a statement: “It is totally insulting to us. We have got nothing to do with the competitors of Tatas, our fight is against the state government and not against the Tatas.”

He was referring to the statement made in the media that Tata rivals are behind this political protest against the project. Tata Group Chief Ratan Tata somewhat blamed the competitors for fuelling the controversy to delay the project.

Roy added: “There have been some back channel efforts with the state government to break the deadlock as we are worried about the fast-deteriorating health of Mamata.”
