ABN Amro Bank cutting jobs in North America

ABN Amro Bank is the biggest Dutch bank and they have revealed their decision to cut jobs in their operations in the North American region.

The company would cut about 900 North American jobs by the middle of 2007 with the aim of reducing costs of operations amidst growing competition.

This means that ABN would be getting rid of around 5% of their total workforce in the region. These job cuts would take place across nearly all areas of the bank and at all major locations.

Company spokesman Shawn Platt said in a statement: “It’s part of an effort for us to focus. Competition is tough.”

Most of the cuts would take place in United States and Canada. Norman Bobins, head of ABN Amro’s North American operations added: “It is imperative that we take a hard look at our clients’ needs and align our resources accordingly.”
