New York Stock Exchange to remain closed on January 2
The NYSE Group Inc. has said that the New York Stock Exchange will be closed on January 2.
This would be to mark the death of former U.S. President Gerald Ford.
This comes after President GW Bush declared January 2 a national day of mourning for Ford. Ford died earlier this week.
Not only NYSE all federal offices would remain closed on Tuesday.
NYSE Group Chief Executive John Thain said in a statement on this announcement: “My NYSE Group colleagues and I join all Americans in mourning the loss of President Ford, a man of great integrity and vision, and a dedicated public servant. It is appropriate that we honor President Ford and celebrate the life of a truly great American.”
In addition, NASDAQ too has announced that it will be closed on January 2.
