Toyota developing sensors to detect drunken driving
Asahi Shimbun has claimed in a report that World’s second largest automaker Toyota is currently working on developing a fail-safe system for cars that detects drunken drivers.
These sensors would automatically shut down the vehicle if it feels that the driver is drunk.
The report said that the car fitted with this system would not start if sweat sensors in the driving wheel detect high levels of alcohol in the driver’s bloodstream.
The system would also be smart enough to detect abnormal steering. It would also monitor the driver’s pupils to see if they are focused on the road.
This system is expected to be made available in cars starting 2009. Nissan is another company which is working on making detectors for drunken drivers.
