BMW might establish a global procurement centre in India
German automaker BMW already is in the process of setting up its luxury car assembly facility near Chennai. The company is now considering establishing an international procurement centre in India.
The company is already investing close to Euro 20 million on their plant. This plant would be manufacturing the BMW 3 and 5 series.
BWM is considering setting up this procurement center in Chennai, Delhi or Pune. Market sources say that Delhi is pretty much out of the equation considering it is a land locked city.
Chennai is being touted as the favorite considering its locality near a port, good quality of supply and infrastructure. BMW already has a similar setup present in Beijing China. A second plant in India would help BMW maximize cost savings.
BMW is likely to finalize the details by the end of the current week.
