DaimlerChrysler to manufacture Vans in China
Automaker DaimlerChrysler has said that they have received the permission from the Chinese government to setup a joint venture in the country to manufacture vans in the market.
Their Mercedes Benz division would form a collaboration with Fujian Auto industry Group and Taiwan’s China Motor Corp. Mercedes-Benz will hold 33.78 percent of the venture.
This joint venture would see investments worth Euro 200 million and the group aims to manufacture about 40,000 mid-sized and light cars.
DaimlerChrysler would manufacture Viano and Vito minivans and Sprinter transport vans through this venture and they aim to bring these vehicles in the market by next year.
Interestingly, they had just gone into collaboration with local automaker Chery and this unit would be making a new small car that would be made in China and marketed around the world.
