Toyota displaces DaimlerChrysler from the top three in USA
Japanese automaker Toyota has now overtaken DaimlerChrysler to become the third largest automaker in the US market.
The company gained from impressive sales in December and managed to overtake DaimlerChrysler in terms of sales of vehicles.
Toyota is increasingly becoming a dominating player in the market taking away crucial market share from both Ford and General Motors.
Last month saw sales of both GM and Ford falling down by around 10%. DaimlerChrysler performed well to gain 4%. Toyota did exceptionally well to see their sales go up by around 16%.
Toyota is gaining from strong demand for their Corolla and Camry sedans. They sold 2.54 million cars during 2006 compared to 2.39 million units for DaimlerChrysler.
Alex Rosten, an industry analyst with Edmunds.com predicted about Toyota for 2006: “(Toyota) will be No. 2 in 2007. Ford has even conceded the fact that Toyota is going to overtake them as the No. 2 automaker in North America.”
