Google expands in China by acquiring a stake in Xunlei Network Technology
Search engine giants Google has said that they have acquired a stake in the china based Xunlei Network Technology.
Xunlei Network Technology deals in providing file-sharing and other services. The company did not disclose the financial aspects of this deal to the media personals.
Google is said to be partnering with Ceyuan Ventures for this investment deal. Ceyuan is a Shanghai-based venture capital firm.
Chinese media sources claim that the software developed by Xunlei is used by more than 80 million web users in the country. The service further attracts more than 50 million visitors a day on its website.
This might be one of the many steps Google could be taking to expand their services in the country. They want to become a major player in the video delivery services on the web in this market. And domestic internet search leader Baidu.com is their biggest competitor in China.
