Toyota aiming to generate more capacity in North America

Toyota overtook Chrysler to become the third largest automaker in the US market. They are already the second largest automaker in the world. Now, they aim to improve upon their position in the competitive US market.

The company has said in a statement that they are aiming to expand its manufacturing capacity in North America. They are currently reviewing several locations for new plants.

Toyota had a fantastic year in 2006 as they saw their sales rise by 13 percent in the industry’s largest market. They are now aiming to have a production capacity of 2 million cars and trucks by 2008 in 15 plants across North America.

News sources claim that the company is likely to name a location in the southern United States for its eighth North American assembly plant. This new plant is likely to have an annual manufacturing capacity of 200,000 vehicles.
