Sharp to enhance production capabilities of LCD Television sets

Sharp Corp. has announced their plans to boost the production of LCD television sets to counter the challenge provided by rivals including Samsung and others.

The company would boost output with an 8 billion yen factory based in Mexico. They would also setup a new production line at a domestic plant.

Sharp has been struggling to meet the growing demand for these television sets in the markets around the world. They currently have a 12% market share in this segment and trail Sony, Samsung and Philips.

Sharp President Katsuhiko Machida said that their upcoming plant in Mexico would deliver finished televisions in North America for the first time. This would help them gain a share in the competitive US market.

He said: “By building a robust supply setup, we hope to be even more aggressive in our global business.”
