Sony Ericsson gain from improved sales of feature rich mobile phones

Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has reported that their profit more than tripled in the fourth quarter. The company gained from impressive sales of their music and camera enabled mobile handsets in the markets around the world.

The company said in its revenue report that the net profit came to 447 million Euros in the three months ending December 2006. This is up from figures of 144 million Euros for the same period in 2005.

Sony Ericsson further said that the sales volume of their mobile handsets in the market soared 61 per cent to 26 million units. The company said that the Walkman and Cybershot range of mobile phones helped them in achieving this feat.

Sony Ericsson President Miles Flint added: “The fourth quarter saw Sony Ericsson finish a strong year with record volumes, sales and net income due to the soaring popularity of our imaging and music phones.”

This is impressive considering rivals Nokia and Motorola are focusing on cheaper mobile phones to increase sales. However, low profits on these phones hurt their revenues in the end. Sony has been an exception in this field.
