Texas Instruments expects mobile phone sales to increase by 20% this year

Texas Instruments has said in a statement that they expect the global sales of mobile phones to grow to between 1.1 billion and 1.2 billion units in 2007.

This would be an improvement of around 20 percent from about 1 billion units sold last year. A company spokesperson said in a statement: “We are optimistic on the growth momentum of low-price mobile phones.”

TI is incidentally the world’s largest maker of microprocessors for the mobile phone devices.

The spokesperson added: “The Company has shipped large amounts of chips for low-price mobile phones since November and December last year, which will help boost our business significantly this year.”

TI also has plans to put efforts on R&D and manufacturing of chips related to wireless communications, video and other multimedia applications in the coming months.
