Tata Motors begin construction of plant in Singur
Tata Motors has begun the initiated preliminary steps to construct its small car plant at Singur. The company has received permissions from the West Bengal Industrial Development Corp (WBIDC) to start the construction work.
This announcement came just as the West Bengal government extended prohibitory orders banning the assembly of four or more people in Singur till January 28 midnight.
The government is afraid that the construction work would result in more protests in the region. Sources said that the construction work is being looked after by over 500 policemen.
A company statement said: “The Tata Motors plant operation is expected to create employment in excess of 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.”
Tata Motors has further said that they would deploy appropriate and necessary people from Singur area for various unskilled jobs and skilled assignments like masons and fitters.
