Maruti launches Suzuki Swift Diesel in India
India’s leading automaker Maruti Udyog has finally launched the diesel version of their popular luxury hatchback car Swift.
They have launched this variant of Swift at a competitive Rs 4.68 lakh price tag. This is the first diesel car being launched by the dominating player in the domestic market since quite some time. Maruti had to discontinue their Diesel Zen and Esteem model couple of years ago.
Interestingly, Maruti has launched just two variants of the diesel version of Swift. The base model Suzuki Swift LDI is priced at Rs 4.68 lakh.
The higher end Suzuki Swift VDI version would sell for Rs 4.96 lakh. The company is offering ABS (anti-brake locking system) only on the VDI version.
Maruti sells three variants of the petrol edition of the car.
The company added that these prices are introductory and they are likely to be refreshed after a couple of months.
Maruti Swift Diesel edition comes powered with a 1.3 liter, five-step multi-injection, DOHC (double over head camshaft) DDiS engine. It provides 190Nm of torque at 2000 RPM and puts out 75 BHP of power at 4000 RPM.
Maruti claims that the car comes powered with the world’s smallest four cylinder diesel engine for passenger cars.

Maruti is stupid not to sell a ZDI version of the car.

I actually agree with you considering most Swift buyers are going for the VXI or ZXI model. And if someone is indeed going for a diesel Swift, he would like to get the most out of the car and that includes the climate control mechanism!
At 5.5 lakh rupees, it would have been a killer of a luxurious hatchback…

The build quality of the Swift is very good and it gives a solid re-assuring feel. Good job there, Maruti! But I hope Maruti will understand the Indian customer and bring out a proper ZDi and Zxi version to the Indian market with climate control, steering wheel mounted audio controls and multi-function display on the dashboard, like the European versions.
Hope the 1.6 engine variant would be introduced as well!

don’t go for the diesel one unless you drive around at least 5000 KM a month. it’s not worth it otherwise.
