De Beers to open up a retail store in India

De Beers has said that they are planning to start retailing top-end diamond jewellery in India. The company would also now expand upon its Nakshatra range of diamond products.

Jonathan Oppenheimer, head of De Beers’ producer relations in Africa said in a statement: “We have a 50:50 venture with Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton to retail exclusive diamond jewellery. We have these stores in six countries from the US to Japan.”

He added: “We now have plans for one in India.”

The company had opened up their first De Beers store in London. Since then, they have opened up other outlets in major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Paris.

The company added in a statement: “We will also expand the Nakshatra constellation of diamond jewellery which we launched in India a few years ago under a partnership with our sightholders. Aishwarya Rai was signed up as the brand ambassador for this range.”

Oppenheimer had this to say: “India is an important market for us and we will continue to expand in that market.”
