Suzuki to invest big on their diesel plant in India
Suzuki has already launched their first car powered by the diesel engines being made at their diesel engine plant in Manesar near Gurgaon. Maruti launched Swift Diesel model which provides a diesel alternative to the already hit premium segment compact car.
Now, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) and Suzuki Powertrain India (SPIL) has announced that they would be investing an additional Rs 2,500 crore till 2010 on this plant for expansion.
Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) Chief General Manager C K Dave said in a statement on these plans: “SMC and MUL will invest over Rs 2500 crore in the diesel engine plant, up to 2010. The new facility has a capacity to manufacture 100,000 diesel engines annually, which is being scaled to 300,000 engines.”
He added: “Technology for this diesel engine was obtained by SMC through a technical license agreement with Fiat and Adam Opel and the engine is being manufactured at SMC and MUL’s diesel engine plant in Manesar near Gurgaon.”
