US government claims post 911 air travel recovery complete
The United States government has said in a statement that the nation has finally recovered from the slump in the air traffic after the 911 incident. The government released an optimistic forecast on Tuesday for commercial air-travel growth.
US government’s Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta said in a statement: “For the first time in several years, we are no longer talking about recovery. It has been a steep climb since September 11, 2001. But as of the end of 2005, the number of passengers flying in the United States was 5.9 percent higher than before those horrific terrorist attacks.”
The US Federal Aviation Administration added some figures to justify this statement. The agency claimed that mainline and regional U.S. airlines boarded 669 million people in 2005. This was up by around 6.6%. They further said that the total boarding is scheduled to reach 1 billion in 2015.
